What is 'face to face fundraising?'

Face to face fundraising refers to the recruitment of ongoing monthly supporters, donating via credit card or direct debit through engaging individuals at their homes, at work or in shopping centres and on the streets.

Having begun in Germany nearly 40 years ago, where now over 5% of the population give ongoing support to German Red Cross, face to face began in Australia in 2000. Whilst some not-for-profits have been able to establish internal face to face teams the vast majority of acquisition occurs via the use of an external agency who bring full-time commitment, specialist skills and experience to running a successful campaign on the not-for-profit's behalf. Having experienced huge growth on a global scale over the last ten years, and still doing so, face to face acquisition offers the most cost-effective means for a not-for-profit to recruit significant volume of regular supporters. In addition, massive and immeasurable benefits result from the enhanced understanding and awareness of their work and resulting one-off donations; a typical campaign will likely see interactions with hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of members of the community.
